Helical Drilling (HELICAL) was founded over 30 years ago on a simple observation: when structures underperform, the real problem is often hidden below the ground surface.
Our founder, Rimas Veitas, P.E., a classically trained structural engineer, saw this firsthand while leading his family’s consulting firm. Time and again, he was called to evaluate buildings in distress – only to find that the root cause wasn’t the structure itself, but the ground supporting it.
Recognizing a gap between diagnosis and solution, Rimas partnered with Chad Graybill to create HELICAL – a company built not just to identify problems, but to solve them innovatively.
From the beginning, that meant doing things differently. HELICAL helped bring the use of helical piles into large-scale application across the Northeast, transforming how new and existing foundations could be supported in challenging soils. As projects grew more complex, the company continued to lead by introducing Geopier® ground improvement systems to the region and also pioneering the use of Ductile Iron Piles.
What started as a small underpinning contractor focused on helical piles to solve ongoing problems has evolved into a full-service geotechnical construction firm with a multitude of deep foundation, ground improvement, and excavation support systems. These solutions are now commonly leveraged on projects to proactively avoid future issues. Many projects taken on by HELICAL are driven by a willingness to take on the problems others couldn’t… or wouldn’t.
Today, HELICAL is a proud, employee-owned company and trusted partner on many of the Northeast’s most demanding projects.
